Another perfect sailing day! Dolphins gambolled in the glittering water around Sior as the CODs made their annual outing to the Menai Straits Regattas.

Alys made a good start on the Conwy shore, bravely going in very close to avoid the strong adverse tide. All boats cleared the line and tacked up to the Perch and then set off along the Conwy Morfa shore avoiding the tide but looking for the better wind slightly off shore.

The boats were neck an neck for a while but at Pen y Clip, Minnie set off for the Anglesey side and got further and further ahead. Gwalch hung on third to Blue Bird but at the last, was able to overtake to gain a 2nd with Keith bailing hard with the bucket on Blue Bird. Alys had gone in search of a better wind, which she didn’t find – but found the dolphins instead so everyone was happy.

A wonderful sail and a warm welcome from the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club when we reached the other side.

Congratulations to John and Kit: their first sail in a COD this season – looks like they haven’t forgotten how to do it.

We are all now looking forward to an exciting two weeks of sailing in the Menai Straits Regattas 2024
