Deganwy Rowers Prize Giving Evening
Saturday the 23rd March saw the rowing and the sailing sections of the Conway Yacht club join forces for a very successful evening of celebration accompanied by dinner. The clubhouse was filled with members and the great aromas of what proved to be a delicious meal prepared by Glen and his team of volunteers.
Our club Commodore Steve Wotherspoon recognised our rowers who achieved in 2023.
- Sue Blunt for sailing from CapeTown to Freemantle on the Clipper Around the World Race.
- Peter Hamer for being awarded the Conwy Sports award for Service to Sport.
- Richard and Petra Haig’s Special Achievement Award for completing their round the world voyage.
- Paula Boult’s son Freddie MacLaverty, for making the Welsh and British Laser Junior Squad.
Prizes were then awarded to the winning yachts and crews (see the CYC webpage) before our Rowing Captain Peter Hamer got to award and acknowledge members of Deganwy Rowers.

The Rowers Rower trophy
Our members were asked to nominate and vote for a rower who
- You most look forward to being in a boat with
- Who lifts the spirit in a boat
- Who you can count on
- Who does a lot for the club.
This award went to Kate Halliday
Most improved Cox
This award was based on an assessment by the coaching team for the person who has improved consistently across various criteria:
- Boat handling
- Crew Training and Development
- Water knowledge
This award went to Annmarie Bateman.
Special Award for Significant Contribution to rowing.
This award went to Steve Wotherspoon. Steve is one of the original rowers at the club and has consistently given of his time and experience. Week in and week out he coxes, coaches, encourages, and supports. This award recognises his significant contribution to the club’s development.
The Beaumaris Senior Ladies League Race trophy was presented to the crew
Sarah Marshall, Paula Boult, Amanda Collins, Dani Hamnett and their cox Simon Halliday.
A special thank you was also given to those who gave of their time and effort without whom the evening couldn’t have happened.
